Generic Biography ... well sort of...
Generic started off when Wizz and Terry a conned Sned and Micky, who vowed never to be in a band with each other again, to come along to practice with a new band that they were putting together.
The first practice went well despite the shock, and pretty soon we had enough songs to play our first gig, which was at the Station, a place were we put on DIY gigs in Gateshead.
Eventually we got enough songs together to record a demo, which we sold as a benefit for striking Coca-Cola Workers in Guatemala, the song Coca Killer was from the demo, was about their struggle.

We then decided to put out a record ourselves no big deal now, but this was the first time a HC band would put out a DIY record I the UK after much saving, begging and borrowing, and folding and packing it came out in March 1986 and Flat Earth was born. The rest is History as far as Flat Earth is Concerned. |

Generic went on to play more gigs and eventually acquired a second singer, did some more gigs and recorded a split LP with The Electro Hippies in the spring of 1987, did some more gigs and then Sned left the band. At this point I'd had enough and that was that. |

Wizz and Terry managed to convince Sned to get the band back together and I wasn't invited! Gulp! Generic then went on to record another split 12" with Mortal Terror and a 7" at the end of December 1987, Tour Scandinavia, and Europe a few times, bastards ;^) |
|
This state of flux held up recording until Generic finally settled on the line up which recorded the Torched 7" and then did what they did best ... splitting up for one final time... |

Okay, I hope it was worth waiting the 5 years it has taken for me to get this done... I could write a lot more, but really it's better to spend time and energy on bands that are doing things now.

...and that was the way it should have stayed until someone decided to do a shitty Generic bootleg, for a lot of money and not include all of the songs. If you want a proper copy of the songs taken direct from the master click on the image to the right for details. |
Okay now check out some bands that are still going...
